My UPS package is Lost?

Supposedly my order arrived today at 4:50pm at my front door but it actually didn't because i was at home all day. i know this from the tracking number they gave me. I called UPS but they told me i had to call the shipper so they can trace an investigation or something like that. Has anyone had any similar experience? what can i do?
