I ordered items from a business in the US to be sent to my address in Toronto, Ontario. When it finally arriv?

ed, Canadian customs wanted $40 to be paid to the delivery man. I was not prepared for this, so I refused delivery, hoping it would go back to the sender. I have no way if this is occurring. DHL global was the shipper. How can I find out about my package? Would they just abandon it?
